How to ask for an AI education program
Yes, you can learn about AI on your own, but it might be more fun and interesting to obtain AI education through your workplace. An AI education program produced by your organization can consolidate the burdensome amount of information available, tie it to organizational mission and values, and package it into a fun, interactive education event — maybe even with some AI karaoke.
Before asking for an AI education program, verify your organization doesn’t already have one. If no such program exists, the following steps are offered as a guide for requesting a program:
Determine which department oversees training. Identify the correct process for submitting training requests.
Identify one-to-three tasks in your work area that would benefit from AI. Example: in the banking industry, sometimes clients ask for validation of interest accrued on a loan. They want to see how the daily accrual is calculated to prove out that the interest owed per the statement is correct. Sometimes, a loan system can generate this data. Other times, a loan operations employee must use an Excel spreadsheet containing appropriate formulas to calculate. It can be time consuming. But if a GPT can do it in seconds, what a significant improvement in turnaround time to the customer!
Obtain your supervisor’s buy-in. Meet with your supervisor and communicate your interest in AI, desire for AI education, and your desire to submit an AI education request to the training department. Would your supervisor approve your involvement and be willing to review the request before you submit it? (Also, your supervisor may know if something is already in the planning stages.)
Create a compelling case for an AI education program. Comprise a two-to-three-paragraph request showcasing:
a. your understanding of the potential for AI in your industry
b. your personal experience (if any) with an AI tool
c. one-to-three shining examples of a possible use for AI in your work area (use bullet points to make them stand out)
d. your willingness to be a champion for the organization’s AI initiatives, including beta testing the education program
Proofread your request for an AI education program.
Submit the request.
Effective Continuous Improvement begins with clarity on workflows, procedures, and training plans.
